Back from break

During the two weeks break due to international world cup qualification matches there was time for Borussia Dortmund to evaluate their first two Bundesliga matches of this season. Four points seems ok, but the performances were not what the officials of Borussia Dortmund expected. Especially the away match at Nuremberg was disappointing. Jürgen Klopp need to get his boys back on track to beat Leverkusen at home this weekend.

Let‘s have a look back to the start of the season. While the first round of this season‘s DFB cup was just a minor duty, the first Bundesliga match was a hard task for BVB. The black-yellow team had real problems with Werder Bremen at home and were lucky in the end to get away with three points. The display was even worse one week later in Nuremberg and we didn‘t deserve more than one point. So at all, as mentioned, four points are ok, but we need to improve. New signing Marco Reus had at all a good start. He scored in DFB cup and against Bremen, though he was weak in Nuremberg.

Some BVB players had the chance to shine in their national teams the last two weeks. Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer, Marco Reus and Mario Götze stood on the pitch for the German national team against Austria this last Tuesday. The performances in the lucky 2-1 victory of Hummels, Reus and Götze were ok. Marcel Schmelzer showed a horrible performance. That is really disappointing as Schmelzer gets the chance to become a regular starter as left back as national skipper Lahm moved to the right side. Nonetheless it seems that national coach Joachim Löw will give Schmelzer some more chances as left back in the coming matches.

Marco ReusBack to Bundesliga business. Borussia Dortmund is without injury of one of their main players. Sven Bender is back from medical treatment and will sit on the bench. Sebastian Kehl and Ilkay Gündogan will make up our holding midfield. In front of them Kuba, Großkreutz and Reus will probably start. There is still a slight chance that Mario Götze will make his starting debut in favor of Großkreutz for example.

Bayer Leverkusen official coach Lewandowski, curiously with the same surname as our striker, will field a ambitious team. New signings former Real Madrid player Carvajal as right back and former Nuremberg player Wollscheid as central defender, so Reinartz got moved to holding midfield. If Rolfes misses the match due to injury, Castro might move back to midfield and Renato Augusto take his place on the wing.
