Borussia vs. Bielefeld ? penultimate match day

All serials must come to an end! After our 0:3 defeat in Wolfsburg many things changed for our Borussia: We dropped back on position # 6 behind Hamburg and if we will not climb back at position # 5 the doors to the Europe league will be closed for us. But don't let us get too sad or be too pessimistic - life goes on! In the league there will be two remaining match days and in two weeks a lot can happen!

The only option we have is to look forward. And looking forward means to our next match against the club from East Westphalia. So let's all welcome Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday in our Westfalenstadion. It will also be our last home match of the season and that's motivation enough for team and fans to do our very best! And let's not forget: At home we are still without a defeat and for Leonardo Dede it will be match number 301 for Borussia!

Since the foundation of the Bundesliga, Arminia Bielefeld relegated six times into the second division. Last return into Germany's first division was in 2004 and since that time Arminia belongs to the Bundesliga. A lot of popular players and German internationals played for Arminia in the past. But it should be mentioned that the popularity of most of them increased when they left Arminia for another club. Some examples are players like Thomas von Heesen, Ewald Lienen, Uli Stein or Bruno Labbadia. The latter currently working as the coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Also current BVB defender Patrick Owomoyela or former Borussia striker Delron Buckley spent some successful years in Bielefeld. With five matches for Germany, Patrick Owomoyela is even Bielefeld's record international.

By the end of this season the situation looks dramatic for Arminia. After their defeat at home against Hoffenheim (0:2) the team dropped to position # 16 and is struggling heavy against relegation. Up to now Arminia shot only 27 goals. Among Karlsruhe and Cottbus, Arminia has the lowest number of goals in the league. Bielefeld's top scorer is Polish international Artur Wichniarek with 12 goals. A big gap then to Bielefeld's next successful striker, Sambia's international Christopher Katongo with three goals.

Starters like defenders Andre Mijatovic and Markus Bollman will not join Bielefeld's team on Saturday. Mijatovic due to his yellow/red card from the match against Hoffenheim, Bollmann is injured. Also midfielder Thorben Max (rupture of a muscle fibre) will not be able to play. All in all not an easy job for Arminia's coach Michael Frontzeck to find the optimal team to fight against relegation.

But there are also a lot of problems for Borussia's coach Jürgen Klopp. As a consequence of Tuesday's match in Wolfsburg, Alexander Frei, Tamas Hajnal, Sebastian Kehl and Felipe Santana were not able to attend the training. Hopefully they will return until Saturday! In addition to them the season for Kevin Prince Boateng is over by now due to his red card in Wolfsburg. It will depend on Borussia's decision and on possible negotiations with Tottenham Hotspurs if there will be a future for him in black n' yellow. But there are also good news: Tinga recovered from stomach flu and also the return of Mats Hummels .seems not to be far away. Probably in the next week he will join the training again. Of course too late for the last two Bundesliga matches but a chance for him to play in the "below 21 team" in European championship.

A lot of uncertainty for both teams before the match. But one thing is for sure: Both teams will know how high the stakes are. And for both teams things run into different directions. For Arminia the target is to avoid relegation, for Borussia it is to climb back to position # 5 and to qualify for the Europe league. But to meet all these targets depends not only from the result in our Westfalenstadion. On penultimate matchday the preliminary and final results in other stadiums will be highly important for both teams. For Borussia a win against Bielefeld is a must but always combined with a look at the North. Hamburg, currently at position # 5 will play against Cologne. So if Borussia will win on Saturday but Hamburg as well, nothing will change! A complicated situation but that belongs to football! So let's also cross our fingers for Cologne!

We have all premises for an exciting Saturday afternoon!

And whatever will happen in our last home match or maybe next Saturday - Jürgen Klopp's summary is absolutely right: "Our positive development will not be finished yet! All what we have achieved this year will help us in the future!"
