Certificate day!

Ilkay GündoganOver the last two years, I have taken a close look on our new players during the winter break. This year, I want to continue this little tradition to evaluate how the newbies advanced in the championship team. Before this season, Ilkay Gündogan, Chris Löwe, Ivan Perisic and Moritz Leitner came to make the Deutscher Meister even better. Additionally, injured Julian Koch came back to Borussia after being on loan in Duisburg, Mustafa Amini announced his transfer to Dortmund (even though he will arrive not until this summer) and Marvin Bakalorz made the step from the reserve to the first team but never played in Bundesliga. This is why I will leave these three names out of my analysis. Let's have a look on the four newbies who really made some appearances on the grounds of Germany.

Another look at the week of truth

Time to celebrateBefore the last three matches, much has been said about the importance of those three meetings with the three big clubs of Bayern Munich, Arsenal FC and Blue-White. It was said that after the three matches, one could get a clue of the future of the Deutscher Meister 2011 and that this week would be a kind of decisive for the rest of the whole season concerning competition in Bundesliga and Champions League. Therefore, after these three matches have been played, it is time to evaluate on that. What impressions did we get? What does the future have in store for Borussia? Of course, it is necessary to divide this analysis in two parts, national and international competition.

Farewell Nuri Sahin - Is the Borussia fairy tale over?

The curse of success came earlier than expected. Real Madrid ripped the brain out of the team of championship winning young-guns by signing Nuri Sahin. Though it is no surprise that the Borussia performances throughout this fantastic season caught the attention of the big players in international football, it was widely expected in and around Dortmund that the core of this team would stay together at least to play the next Champions League season. But with Nuri Sahin not only the pacemaker of our midfield leaves Dortmund but also a local boy and homegrown talent cherished as a “Dortmunder Jung” by the BVB supporters. How did the fans react to that? Is the move at this moment a wise decision by the young Turk? How will Borussia fill the gap Sahin leaves behind? We try to answer some of those questions.

Dede - when a friend leaves

It was a weird day that 15. of March in 2011. One moment filled with happiness and joy after Hummels had signed a contract until 2014, the other filled with sadness and sorrow. In the end, the sad moment weighed heavier. It was the moment when our DEDE announced that he would leave our Borussia at the end of the season. After 13 years of all the ups and downs you could encounter with a team, he got to the point where he needed a new challenge. It is hard to find the right words right now since DEDE isn't just any other player that leaves. He is not just any other player we all loved that leaves, no, it is a friend that leaves. Someone who stayed- through the better and the worse. Someone who had enough chances and opportunities to prove himself in another league of another country but always stayed. Stayed because he cared. For the team and the fans.

Evaluating the newbies

The newbies 2010/11Last year in March, I took a closer look on the new members of the squad of 2009/2010 while the team was going to qualify for Europe. Nearly one year later, Borussia is on their way to win the championship which certainly is partly related to the new transfers manager Michael Zorc made before the beginning of this historic season. Like last time, I will reflect on six newbies in the squad of Borussia. Interestingly, the look into the future I took last year was an educated guess since Lewandowski came, Tinga left and we found some jokers ready to step in when they are needed. This time will be harder to foresee the changes of next summer, but I will try again at the end of this article.

Behind the curtains: Borussia, a club on the turndown

Things are not easy in Dortmund right now. Borussia is a team on the turndown. After yesterday's dreadful match against Hannover 96, Arnd Zeigler***, a German sportscaster and Werder Bremen stadium announcer, got hold of Jürgen Klopp, the out of luck Borussia Dortmund coach, and asked him about the current situation in Dortmund. The interview was shown on "Zeiglers wunderbare Welt des Fußballs" on WDR TV late on Sunday night. It is one of the most disclosing interviews ever to be shown on German TV. Schwatzgelb.com presents you with the English transcript and a few annotations, so that you get the impression about what really is going behind the super shiny top of the world atmosphere they make us want to believe.

Freiburg away or: The way is the goal

When most people are still asleep, Dortmund's were on their way

Getting tickets for the last day of the season is always a little bit tricky. Tickets are sold weeks before the match and you can only hope that you don’t have to see a match without any meaning for the ranking. The last match of our Borussia was something like it since Freiburg escaped relegation a week earlier and we had only small chances to fall down in the ranking. Even though the match in Freiburg was not a match with exhibition character, many supporters won’t forget this 8th of May because of the 3-1 loss in Dreisamstadion, but because of the long journey to the last match of the season.

Hang loose! Mitch Langerak on his way to Dortmund?

BVBThe season is over and it is time for some remodelling of our squad. Marc Ziegler, our long-time backup goalie, is attracted by an offer from Stuttgart. But Zorc and Klopp on the other hand aren’t unprepared. Their answer will most likely be Mitch Langerak. Mitch Who?
