With Borussia in Azerbaijan - Adventures at the Caspian Sea

As the draw at Nyon came up with the Opponent „FK Qarabag Agdam“ instead of AIK Stockholm (these were the last 2 teams in our pot), the great confusion how to get there began. A first search results flight-costs of ca. 400 €, but difficulties to get a Visa in time, and very expensive bookable hotels from Germany. So we decided to take the one-day Fan-Flight, which was organised by The Unity and Away Sups Werdohl for 558 €.
After the first game I read that there were heavy incidents after the game AIK Stockholm – Levski Sofia, so our draw was not the worst I think...

On the other side of the phone line, sitting in his home close to Potsdam: René Tretschok, another member of 1997’s Champions League winning side. He today coaches Hertha Berlin’s U19 team.

Just awesome

Sometimes, a match day of national competition can be just awesome. After the surprise of German championship winner Bayern Munich losing in Kaiserslautern on Friday, the great loss of our hated neighbours against Hannover and the incredible victory of Mönchengladbach in Leverkusen, everything seemed to be possible for the last match of this day on Sunday, 5.30 pm. Borussia had to travel to Stuttgart to meet another team who lost on day one of the championship. Both teams qualified for the group stage of the Europa League last Thursday, but Borussia's advance was more convincing since Stuttgart and the supporters had to be afraid of losing their place in the group stage until the final whistle. On Sunday, it was time to find out which team starts aborted and in the end, it was not Borussia. Dortmund beat VfB 3-1 (3-0) and finds itself on the 8th rank in front of Scheisse 04, Bayern, Leverkusen and Bremen in the important ranking after two days.

Breakfast at Friedhelms

Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart somehow share the same fate. Both teams reached the Euro League group stage during the week and boths teams lost their first Bundesliga match. While Stuttgart were beaten in Mainz, Dortmund had to accept Leverkusen's supremacy in Westfalenstadion. So both sides need these three points to avoid a bad start in the league.

Every beginning is hard

After 106 days , it was finally time for the Bundesliga to start again. The summer pause is always dreadful and even the WorldCup could not fill the void that was left behind after the last game of the last season had ended. So finally, on Sunday, at 17:30 it was time for Dortmund to start into a new season of football and excitement. Against Leverkusen it was our aim to keep the first three points at home. Unfortunately life does not always go the way we want it to go.

Let’s speak it out loud: Glad all over!
105 days without Bundesliga and Borussia – a terrible time! Yes, we all enjoyed the worldcup, six exciting weeks with many interesting matches and a great atmosphere! But, to be honest, that’s not the perfect substitute for matches of Borussia Dortmund, especially in our Westfalenstadion! Surely no one of us will deny it!

Doing the first step

After a 4-0 (4-0) victory, we are less than one step away from the group stage of this year's European competition. A very convincing first half was enough to beat our opponent from Azerbaidzhan, but let's put first things first ...

Reminiscing about European times

On Thursday evening, Borussia will celebrate its (hopefully glorious) return to the big European stage of Europa League. This is enough reason for us to take a look back to all Borussian accomplishments in the recent past, which means since the start of the new millennium. It will turn out that our last steps in European competition were not really successful but we will hope the best to get to the group stage this year and get a big advantage on Thursday.

Wacker, Wacker, eh eh

Borussia Dortmund started the new season in style with an easy 3-0 win against Wacker Burghausen. While the black-yellow lads secured the result early in both halfs, there were also periods of lacking concentration. Nonetheless a deserved progress to round two of this season's DFB cup.

Do you remember when Borussia last played a competitive match? No? No worries, it has been along time. We played away to Freiburg on May, 8th. After that a couple of test matches ended the season, the World Cup took most of June and reached into July. Summer came and went.

Ireland: Green but also black and yellow!

We all know that you can find Borussia fans all over the world! And today let’s cross the sea with a finger on the map and take a look 1.000 km westward from Dortmund to Ireland, or more precisely Clonmel. Clonmel is a city with round about 20.000 inhabitants, not far away from one of Ireland’s most popular landmarks, the iconic Rock of Cashel with a lot of historic buildings. But for my friends and me Clonmel is also Borussia’s local branch in Ireland!

First cup of the season

On Wednesday evening, Borussia Dortmund gained the first out of four cups of the upcoming season. After a devastating 3-1 (1-1) victory over Manchester City, Borussia is from now on referred to as Ferrostaal Cup winner 2010. After 8 long years without any championships, this is a great accomplishment for our young team and pure motivation for the challenges in German Cup, League and Europa League which will be dominated by the new favorite, Ballspielverein Borussia Dortmund 1909 e.V.
