Stefan, BVB supporter from Sweden

Hello to all BVB-Fans! I am Stefan, 30 years old and live in Sweden. Maybe you ask yourself how a Swedish guy becomes a Borussia supporter, especially as there is no great media coverage of BVB here.

Let me explain how this happened. I have been a black-yellow supporters since I was a kid as my favourite club here in Sweden is first division side IF Elfsborg from a city called Borås, where I live next to. And Elfsborg play in black and yellow - yellow shirts and black pants. In late 2003 I moved to Münster as a exchange student and as a football passionate persons immediately got interested in the 1. Bundesliga.

From Münster it is just a small distance to the Ruhr Valley and as I have been a black-yellow since ever, the identification with Borussia Dortmund was pretty easy. Especially as their main rivals are blue-white, exactly like Elfsborg’s rivals, so that I felt like being home. My first match was against Leverkusen and I travelled together with a neighbour from Münster, who was a BVB supporter as well. But he wasn’t available for all matches and so I started to go on my own. Later that season I was companied by some other friends. Amongst other matches I joined the derby against the blue-whites (don’t want to remember that match...) and a home match against Bayern (one of the highlights in my time being a BVB-Fan!).

In spring 2004 I moved back to Sweden, but since then follow BVB more than ever. I read bvb.de, Kicker, schwatzgelb.de and other sites every day. And I followed the BVB matches via the club’s netradio. Just recently bwin.com offered the matches as a live video stream. Though the video size is really small and the service doesn’t work all the time, but what can you do?

In the meantime I got in contact with some other BVB supporters here in Sweden and some of us started a Swedish BVB webpage some years ago (http://www.svenskafans.com/europa/dortmund/default.asp). We learnt that here are some BVB-Fans, may it be Germans who now live in Sweden as well as Swedish people who got interested in BVB the one way or other (i.e. Champions League).

I try to travel to Dortmund one or two times a season to follow the team live in stadium. Last season I experienced a highlight when I attended our away match in Hamburg. This season four of us were at the home match against HSV and this coming April we will have a weekend in Dortmund and watch BVB against Werder Bremen.

During my time as a BVB supporter I met many other fans from Germany and I especially want to thank Sven from the BVB fanclub “Schwarzgelbe Skorpione Schlewig”, who helps me and the other Swedish BVB supporters every now and then.

Concerning the recent results on the pitch: I hope that this spring will see BVB on the rise, so that we can still play first division next season. I also think that the team needs time and even if we don’t get relegated we shouldn’t demand a UEFA cup spot next season. Adding to that the team now needs all the support we can contribute. I know I will give everything in our match against Werder Bremen.

Wir halten fest und treu zusammen! (We stand together solidly and loyally! [from BVB’s club anthem])

Black-yellow greetings from Sweden

Stefan Carlsson
