Borussia 2006/2007
The World Cup has just finished but we’re already missing our favorite sport football. But there’s one hope, in exactly one month the Bundesliga is starting into the new season. So today we’re looking forward and discussing some of the actual themes around Borussia Dortmund.First there will be a new jersey with a new sponsor logo. While e-on has left, RAG will be the new sponsor. As they want to wait for there inscription to the stock exchange, BVB will play the first games in a “mystical” jersey. The colors of this one, made a lot of noise, because there’s no more a black and yellow dress, but a white and yellow one. The fans were angry because they weren’t told by the club officials, but the yellow press revealed this fact. The supporters club has found an agreement with the club, that this will be the only season in such a dress. Next year the color “black” will return.
Then there was the transfer gossip: The transfers of Steven Pienaar (midfielder) from Ajax and Martin Amedick (defender) from Braunschweig, were fixed since the winter, just like the leaving of Jan “Dino” Koller, who will play in Monaco next year. But there was the uncertain case of Tomas Rosicky, who signed just before the WC in London (Arsenal). 3 other players were named to come: The strikers Nelson Valdez (Werder Bremen), Alexander Frei (Stade Rennes) and the Brazilian midfielder Tinga. Valdez and Frei have now signed their contracts while Tinga is still uncertain to come. The transfers of Valdez and Frei appear for the experts as a change in tactics from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 formation. The problem is that coach Bert van Marwijk hasn’t much time for a system change. At the beginning of the training on the 3rd Juli, there weren’t many players from the A-Squad present because of the World-Cup. BVB’s participants Degen, Frei (Switzerland), Valdez (Paraguay), Smolarek (Poland) and Metzelder, Kehl, Odonkor (Germany) will return late. The three Germans will start their training 12 days before the first game against this year’s champion Bayern Munich on the 11th August.
The return of Metzelder is expected to be “hot”, because of some statements Metze made in interviews just before the WC tournament. He said that the coaches didn’t look after him and that he had to make his own fitness plan during the winter break. Then he refused to speak with club officials about signing a new contract, while his actual contract ends in 2007. After all this time of illness, Christoph seems to forget that the club and the fans believed in him and supported him in the darkest moments of his career. A lot of fans aren’t amused about his behavior, but his performances in the national team will make it difficult for the coach, to leave him on the bench like in the return leg of the last season.
