Mailand or London? Whatever – As long as it is Dortmund!
Gosh, Tomas what’s up now? Are you leaving the club or do you still launch some nice passes into the box of the opponent? This question has been discussed lot’s of time in the passed. Maybe too much as it looks now, because it seems that the supporters of Borussia Dortmund don’t care any longer if Rosicky stays or if he goes!
(The Clash: Should I Stay or should I go!)
A couple of years ago we were glad that our bankrupt management won the transfer battle against Munich’s sausage Uli (Manager Uli Hoeness) and snapped the world class talented Tomas Rosicky away from Bayern Munich towards Borussia Dortmund. Rosicky talent was praised in one sentence with players like Pele and Beckenbauer. With him we reached the champions league, played great games against Real Madrid or AC Milan. We became German champion 2002 in a great photo finish against Bayer Leverkusen and the countrymen from Munich!
So far so good. But over the years the Czech has developed another ability: To hide his, without doubts, big talent for friend and enemy. Seldom had he become the match winner on the pitch. Not very often he was able to stamp the game with his name. Too often he is jogging over the pitch and is watching how his team mates are trying to win the game. It works different with stars at his side: Tomas has his big performances in the jersey of the Czech national team. There he is playing next to the world class player Pavel Nedved. Then Tomas is also a goal getter. With Goals for the BVB he is still in short supply. He only seems to drink target water for his national team and not the club!
Tomas showed sometimes also his talent in the WESTFALENSTADION. The team play with Amoroso worked always very well. The pay for that was the German title in 2002. But after that? Not much, Mr. Rosicky! In the last season he was more in the news because of the transfer rumours (please see also: Transfer facts and transfer rumours
) and because of his demand for better team mates! But a star – Rosicky is not longer 19 and his left already the talent stage – presents him differently. Instead of taking control on the pitch, Rosicky is hiding behind players like Sebastian Kehl. This is even more upsetting because he showed already that he is not a ‘nice weather player’. For example in the first game of the current season, in Wolfsburg, Rosicky run back and forth on the pitch and worked very hard like a defender. But what should be the rule is most of the time the exception. There have been games in the first half of the season in which the 17 years young player Nuri Sahin was the more active player then Tomas Rosicky. Instead of being with the situation that there is another player in the midfield with football intelligence, it looked like Rosicky was offended that he had to fight for the status as the BVB midfield star!
Right on time for the winter break came the transfer rumours again. It was again Atletico Madrid who was the place holder for that. Supposedly the average Spanish first division team is trying to transfer Rosicky since half a year and now also Arsenal London. One user in the sg.de chat room made a proposal that the low cost airline easy jet should transport him direct and cheap to the British capital city. But Rosicky was also asked by the user to do it by himself so that the theater regarding a possible transfer ends right now! That is the current bitter status of the relationship Rosicky: Supporters. We are not really sad, because the rumours are only going to the nerves. But we are also not really happy, because Rosicky is still a very good player and he is respected from every opponent Borussia has to take on. Indifference is taking over and that is the worst sign!
But will Tomas really leave Dortmund? During the training sessions he did not looked bored or dull. He showed high spirits and was highly motivated. It seems that he likes the good atmosphere in the squad. He speaks German by now, maybe better then he would like to admit. Rosicky looks more like a slave from his management. It seems that his manager Pavel Paska wants him to make a move to another club, not Rosicky. There are some clubs in the discussion which are not better then Borussia, how can that work with the international ambition he has? And to top it, now comes a guy called Janos Toth into the game and declares that he has established a link to Arsenal London. Rosicky should clarify this mess first, and then he should think about his future!
So far the future will be Borussia. Manager Watzke and President Dr. Rauball have no reason to act fast. Rosicky has a contract in Dortmund until 2008. He is getting a lot of money for that on the one side. One the other side the BVB Management is in the comfortable position not to let him go to early. It is even not necessary to let him go after the word cup 2006. Even after the season 2006/2007 a Rosicky transfer would still generate money. It is true and accurate that the board of directors is still asking for the 12 Million Euro replacement. The club who can bring this can negotiate; the one which does not should look somewhere else for a bargain!
We supporters can be calm also. We are also in a comfortable position. If Tomas is playing for the club we are happy. Specially if he shows his specific football qualities like in the game in Wolfsburg. If he does not play we are thrilled by Sahin or we can discuss how the new BVB player Steven Pienaar (Borussia just signed him for three years, beginning 1.7.2006) will handle the ball. But if Rosicky walks the pitch then he has to take some critical words from the fans, but really upset that will not be the case. This is the status Rosicky has earned. A BVB supporter got the point when he said after the glories win against the Ruhr rival Schalke: Even Rosicky should stay. ‘He belongs also to us’!
