2-0 – A well deserved victory

Yesterday evening Borussia won its Tuesday evening match against our neighbours from Bielefeld 2:0. Once more Jan Koller, who is leaving next summer, was „man of the match“.

While Borussia coach van Marwijk changed the team on one position only (Koller started for Odonkor), Bielefeld coach von Heesen presented a very defensive line up. Bielefeld started with one striker, a fact that indicated, this would become a hard job, as Borussia had always problems against opponents who striclty concentrate on defending.

Even though Bielefeld didn't want to play, they started rather aggressive, but after only eight minutes there was the first chance for Koller, but he hit the crossbar only. Two minutes later Kringe had his chance after a nice ball from Dede, but once more it became clear, why Kringe is a midfielder and no striker.

After the „wake up“ signal Borussia took the match into its hands, but they only played with the well known „kick and koller“ tactic. High and long to Koller, god will take care of the rest. But sometimes it works, so as in minute twelve, but Referee Perl decided on „Keeper attack“.
After twenty Minutes Borussia were superior at all matters, but the match was, and no one expected something else, a typical Bundesliga match. Nothing more, nothing less.

But then after 28 minutes in the first half, it was Koller time. Once more there was a long and high ball heading for the offence, probably addressed for Koller, but Ricken got foot on it, who reacted quickly and served the ball to Koller, who had no problems to find the net, standing alone in front of Bielefeld's keeper Hain.

Who expected Arminia to do a little bit more was disappointed. They continued to play as if nothing had happened. And Borussia, as unfortunately far to often, stopped playing. Fortunately Bielefeld was too harmless so nothing more happened, but other teams probably take the possibility to score for themselves.

After almost precisely 45 minutes referee Perl ended the first half. Borussia's 1-0 lead was well deserved, it could have even be one goal higher, since Bielefeld did nothing more than nothing.
Both teams started with the same formation, but in the first ten minutes it appeared, that Bielefeld really wanted to do something for the match. In minute 50 and 52 Bielefeld hat their first possibilities in the entire match.

But that should be the only phase in the match, where Bielefeld was noted as opponent, after that, Borussia took control of the match again, without being dangerous. Bert van Marwijk decided to do the first replacement in minute 58. David Odonkor was now in for Lars Ricken, who wasn't lucky about that at all. You could see that clearly in his face and the fact that he denied handshakes with van Marwijk.
And Odonkor adapted to the match quickly, after only two minutes in the match he had his first chance to score, but Bielefeld's keeper Hain was able to save.

The longer the match took the more everyone got more and more nervous. Too often Borussia lead 1-0 and didn't get anything after 90 minutes. Would this be just another one of these matches?

Eighteen minutes before the end Bielefeld received it's first corner kick, but didn't make anything out of it, but so did Borussia ten minutes later. Rosicky played the ball from the corner to Metzelder, who directed the ball to Smolarek, who had no problems scoring his fifth goal this season.
After the goal van Marwijk did another substitution. Kruska entered the pitch for Kringe and the young Kruska prepared the last highlight of this match by playing a nice hig ball to Rosicky on the half left position who took the ball directly and missed the goal only by centimetres.

That was the last notable action in this match, five minutes later good referee Perl finished the match.

Borussia deserved the victory at all matters. Rosicky and Koller were the best players for Borussia, Bielefeld was far to passive to be any danger for Borussia.

Statements:

van Marwijk:We played very well in the first half, the players gave the right answer to the Bremen match. They were aggressive and fast and always found the free man in midfield, but one goal was far to less. In the second half we had some problems for 10 minutes, but we came back to the match. We still don't score enough goals, a higher victory was possible.
