Saturday 6-8-2005 at half past three! Borussia Dortmund journey starts into the season 2005/2006!
Borussia Dortmund will kick off their season 2005/2006 on Saturday the 6th of August in Wolfsburg!
With the away game against VFL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund will kick of their journey into the season 2005/2006. After a more then turbulent season 2004/2005 the BVB supporters are not sure what to expect. The jump start into the new season was already catastrophic when BVB was knocked out in the third UI Cup round (first BVB game) by Sigma Olmütz.
Borussia had to make some cut backs on the player side due to the (still) disastrous financial situation!
Guillaume Warmuz, Otto Addo, Evanilson, Timo Achenbach, Oliseh, Ahmed Madouni, Andre Bergdölmo, Malte Metzelder, Guy Demel, Thiago, Fernandez and Ewerthon all left the club for the new season.
Especially Ewerthon’s goal will be missed, but Borussia got some money out of the transfer to the Spanish side Real Saragossa and so the club had no chance other then to sell him.
On the other side Borussia added:Philipp Degen (right back), Delron Buckley (left forward), Bernd Meier (goalie), Dennis Gentenaar (goalie) to the squad. Also Nuri Sahin, who is only 16 years young, jumped form the BVB youth team into the squad and he is already one of the biggest hopes, somehow crazy!
Degen showed in the first games some nerves, but he should become a solid counterpart to Dede. Hopefully Buckley can pull out another good season like the past one, when he scored 15 goals for his club Arminia Bielefeld.
On Saturday, in Wolfsburg we will see how the team is going to react to the devastating drop out in the UI Cup (the Qualification round for the UEFA Cup). The former winner of the champion’s league 1997 and the former German champion 2002 has to proof a lot of people wrong this season, which are seeing nothing more in the club then average, including Coach Bert van Marwijk who sees his team somewhere between position five and twelve.
Manager Michael Zorc does not think that the squad is that bad:‘Right now everything is made to negative. Everybody says and writes about what does not work. Not about that what could be possible. The squad is from the fitness level up to date. Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken (both were injured) are a little bit behind, but together with the team in practice. So, we are almost complete. It is time that the season will start on Saturday!
