Four minutes short for three points
Borussia ties against Bielefeld one – one and was only 4 minutes away from collecting another 3 big points! After winning surprisingly in Leverkusen one – nil last week Borussia had again very good chances of winning their home game against Bielefeld and earning 3 points for the battle of the international UI-Cup positions. Bielefeld trashed the dreams of BVB with their only chance in the 86 minute when a header from Boakye tied the game and Borussia had to live with only one point.Borussia was able to win the last three games against Hamburg, Berlin and Leverkusen! They are the third best team in the back season and so the squad and the supporters where very optimistic for the home game against Bielefeld, not a bad team but nothing to fear really in the Westfalenstadium
Right on from the beginning Borussia was the better, more active team. Especially Ebi Smolarek was trying in the first minutes to score a goal and he was a constant fear. Borussia pressure was regarded in the 16 minute when Kringe converted a pass from Koller (who was back in the starting formation after missing last clash against Leverkusen due to injury) volley into the net of the Bielefeld goal. Fantastic goal and the first one for the powerful, very talented BVB midfield engine. Most of the fans in the almost sold out stadium (80.000) where from now on in good hope and where waiting for more goals from the black and yellow squad. At this time Bielefeld was not really on the pitch, they had only one chance and that one was a result in the 30 minute of a shot from Wörns blocked by Koller in the BVB defence, luckily Roman Weidenfeller was able to save the ball. Besides that Borussia was still in control of the game and had another good chance by Sebastian Kehl, but the Bielefeld goal keeper saved his shoot. So, one – nil and both teams went after 45 minutes to the locker rooms.
Same scenario during the second half. Borussia still cruising and in control of the game, but also not able to generate any new chances, besides one from Christian Wörns. For some supporters it was offside the pitch harder then on the pitch. Everything could have been worked out very harmonising, but then there was the 86 minute of the game. Lense kicked the ball in the BVB box and the Bielefeld forward Issak Boakye (he was substituted in the 77 minute!) converted with a header: one – one. It was the only Bielefeld chance and the equalizer left Borussia more or less speechless.
After winning three tuff and crucial games against ‘big Bundesliga Clubs’ Borussia jumped short in their first of two home games against teams which are below them. After going one – nil in front Borussia took it maybe to easy on this sunny Saturday afternoon. But Bielefeld had also no real chance and converted late with their only one by a player who was only 9 minutes on the pitch. Now BVB should focus on their next home game, already the next weekend, Saturday the 23 of April against Kaiserslautern. Borussia is still looking strong for the fight of the international UI-Cup positions and every point will help the club to reach this vital tournament!
