19-02-2005 - Gloomy Saturday in Munich

Bayern Munich: Five - Borussia Dortmund: Nil These are the hard facts for a shameful game (we don’t want to name it football game, because Borussia did everything this cold Saturday afternoon besides playing football) in Munich. After the black financial Friday, when Borussia Manager Meier had to tell the press, fans and the world about a bankrupt club, the supporters were hopping for some relief on the sportive side. But once more the squad deserted everybody’s hope in non exactable behaviour!

Borussia came with a good track record to Munich. 10 points out of 12 possible during the last 4 games. The team had not lost any of their four back season games, including 2 away games. But there was another devastating financial week for Dortmund, with the warning on Friday from Michael Meier that if nothing happens the club would not survive the seasons financially. That must have shocked not only the fans, stock market and everybody who is interested in the club, but it must have also shocked the entire squad. Other then that there is no logical explanation why the team was dumped by Bayern Munich five - nothing and left the supporters speechless.
The story is told very fast and we really don’t want to make it longer as necessary! So, after five minutes the nightmare started. It was Munich’s Salihamidzic in the fifth minute who converted a pass from the world class Roy Makaay putting Munich up one – nil. One! Minute later it was Makaay himself, two – nothing. Was the BVB squad really on the pitch? No! Pizarro in the twenty-eight and Makaay again in the thirty-four minute trashed them badly. As a BVB supporter you were astonished! Lucky Bayern dropped 4 gears back and took it from now on easy.
It was Makaay in the second half (55 minute) with his third goal who made it finally five – nothing. Borussia chances? One! But Kehl missed the goal after 60 minutes. Munich took it easy after the fifth goal; they were only going in low gear. Nevertheless I could have been easily a six, seven or eight – nil. 30 minutes later the nightmare was over, on the pitch. Of course after the game Borussia supporters had to swallow a lot of sarcasm by the Munich fans.
In these days it is not the funniest thing to be a Borussia Dortmund supporter. Financial disaster news and now this unbelievable no-performance of the team and the coaches! What the hell were they thinking going to Munich with such a mind set? They should keep in mind that a lot of fans are travelling long distances and spending a lot of money to see such an away game! Professional football players have also to focus on their sport and performance, nothing else. It is somehow understandable that all the bad financial news have an impact on the squad, but it is no explanation for such an awful result!
