0:2 – once again a zeropointer on the road
As a BVB supporter you should normally know before the match that after a win the team performs lousy the next week. Nevertheless many fans of Borussia put new hope on the squad again and again. The same goes for this weekend, when on the pitch of Weserstadion after the final whistle once again everyone was trying to find answers why this team underperforms regularly and without emotions.BVB had Jan Koller, who was suspended due to a 5th booking. Instead the “trotter of the month”, Henrique Ewerthon, was missing. The no-motion football of the last weeks finally got him a flu. What a pity as the Brazilian had a nice record against the German champions (5 goals out of the last 6 matches). Guilaume Warmuz and Bergdolmo were back from injuries and took place on the bench. Though both are not the once to be expected to rescue Dortmund in this match.
Werder Bremen, after a mediocre performance they draw against the B-team of Inter Milan in the European cash-league, without any surprises in the line-up. The spectators in the almost sold-out Weserstadion were expecting a match with many goals as astonishly both teams never draw in the city of fishes (sg.com: Bremen is situated at the shores of the North Sea). The opponent’s fans had some hopes to beat us as SVW’s record against the black-yellows was pretty good – they just lost 5 matches out of 36. On the contrary more than 4.000 BVB supporters on the road (West sand) were hoping that the tendency of the last matches in Bremen would prolonged. Borusssia just lost one match during the last 4 years and thus made the return trip back to Dortmund on highway A1 mostly a nice one. The double-ploed banner battle, even though being outnumbered by BBV supporters, ended in a draw at all – though this was our only success, which nobody knew at that point.
The match started very hectically and Dortmund had the first chance to score in minute 3. Florian Kringe was nicely set up by zero-goal-striker Sahr Senesie, but managed to shoot the ball from tight right angle several metres over the goal - same lack of coolness like the weeks before. 3 minutes later Bremen first approach. Ivan Klasnic leaves Madouni stunning but his sharp cut-in fomr left side was cleared by Christian Wörns. Beside this 2 chances the first 15 minutes were pretty unexciting, and the reason for that was not only the typical, northern shite-weather.
That the audience was not falling asleep was due to two very controversial referee decisions, when Lutz-Michael Fröhlich (Berlin) decided two duels in favour of the black-yellows. In the first scene Fabain Ernst was stopped in good position 10 metres in front of the BVB-box, then Euro-hero Angelos Charisteas (susbtituted for injured Klasnic) stumbled after Roman Weidenfeller cleared the ball with a risky tackle. The booking for Charisteas for diving set the Bremen supporters on fire and this reflected back onto the pitch. Borussia was now under pressure. Just a shot by Tomas Rosicky (27th) was on the record sheet of our offence, th rest was green-white attacking. Klose and Charisteas wasted several good chances until finally BVB’s ask for a goal was answered. After a high cut-in from the right side Miro Klose got the ball left side of the box and volleyed it direction Weidenfeller. The tall BVB keeper couldn’t clear the ball but only deflect it and Johan Micoud had no problem to score from 5 metres – 1-0 (32nd). Now the hosts were finally in control. Dortmund with only one more approach when Rosicky “fired” a weak shot that direction Reinke. Bremen with some dangerous corner and free kicks, which were also wasted. BVB’s defence had problems to cover Werder’s forwards, namely Miroslav Klose, while on the other side of the pitch Koller and Senesie were unvisible. At halftime there weren’t any positive recording regarding Borussia Dortmund on the reporter’s sheets. Only the fact that it was only 1-0 for Bremen made the supporters hope that we could turn the result.
2 minute sinto the second half suddenly the biggest chance till that moment. Sahr Senesie started from the middle line, nobody was able to stop him but finally failed due to his lack of firepower. The shot from right angle was no match for SVW-goalie Reinke. Dortmund now with more effort, but Bremen still more effective. In minute 50 another heartbreaking moment for BVB when Roman Weidenfeller had to clear at high emergency and thus deny Charisteas. Bert van Marwijk now wanted to set a sign and an brought on 17-year old apprentice Marc-André Kruska and Marcus Steegmann. Senesie and Dede had the privilege to use the shower before the other BVB players.
Another shower, a really cold one, for the rest of the team was Bremen 2-0 only seconds later. A free kick from the right side found Ismael’s head and the tall French defender hit the net leaving Weidenfeller no chance to save the ball. Jan Koller looked like he had lost his head in this situation –at all his performance was not worth mentioning. From that moment on Werder reduced their effort to normal joggin with some counter-attacks., while Borussia with soft attacks, mainly played by agile Kruska, tried to half the lead. Helping in this aim was a player most supporters haven#t seen for months. It really was Lars Ricken who was on the pitch from the 63rd minute on. Though he was trying to perform well, but at all not very effective. At all at this moment it was clear to the audience that BVB wouldn’t be able to turn this match, Borussia was just too weak today. There were some minor chances by Koller (66th), Kehl (70th) and once again impressing Kruska (76th), but those approaches were near to scoring a goal as Bremen is to the Austrian border. Somehow froward the supporters concentrated on the important things in live and demanded a derby victory against Schlacke next weekend.
Once again a dissappointing match of Borussia on the road. Bremen was superior in next to every means of the game and did earn those 3 points.ow Dortmund’s hopes are all on reaching the season goal by beating the ugly neighbours from Gelsenkirchen.
Bert van Marwijk:
...regarding the match: “We were to nervous and not able to hold the ball in midfield and in front of Bremen’s goal. So the pressure increased and finally Werder scored. In Weidenfeller, Wörns, Brzenska, Jensen and Kehl only 5 players showed an acceptable performance. Only after 60 minutes we started to play football. We had 3, 4 chances and when you score at that moment you never know what will happen. The 2-0 mustn’t happen, Jan is significantly taller than his opponent. Would it still have been 1-0 we could have – not mentioning whether deserved or not – levelled the match.”
…regarding the offence: “Our problem for sure is the midfield and attack.. Today we wren’t able to play 2, 3 passes to our teammates.”
…regarding the derby next week: “It isn’t hard to be optimistic. I have a good feeling, because we need a certain level of pressure. So it isn’t bad at all to play *censored* next week.”
…regarding Marc-André Kruska: “From the moent he was on our midfield functioned better, we had 3 or 4 chances. When I think a player is mentally and physically ready, I don’t hesitate to line him up.”
…regarding new signings in winter: “Yes, Zinedine Zidane will join us.”
Thomas Schaaf: „We were in the match from the first minute on. It was important for us to win an get those 3 points.“
Marc-André Kruska: „Though it is nice when the coach praises me, but it is much more important to win. The veteran players really helped me when I came onto the pitch.“
