BVB start balancing the budget by offloading some players.
BVB is making progress on their way to reduce their huge wage bill. Last year's salaries mounted to an astonishing 67 Mio Euro and were a factor why Borussia reported a 6 month loss of 29,4 Mil Euro. Now some players have terminated their contracts or won't be loaned anymore. We give a brief overview.Borussia Dortmund and injury-plagued Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso terminate the contract with would have been valid till 30.06.2005. The decision was consensual. BVB officials were stated that they no longer want a player that doesn’t show any respect towards the club. BVB will reduce their wage bill by an estimated 4,5 Mio Euro as Amoroso was Borussia’s top earner. The Brazilian permanently caused trouble by missing deadlines to return from Brazil and accusing BVB’s medical staff of false diagnosis.
There is a clause that enables Borussia Dortmund to demand a 5 Mio Euro transfer fee if Amoroso joins a German club.
The 37-year old veteran, the last WC '90 winner still active, won't renew his contract and will be awarded a position in BVB's management.
Heiko Herrlich, BVB striker since 1995, and BVB agreed on terminating the contract which would have run till 30.06.2005. BVB offer the former top striker a job as a youth coach with the chance to acquire the trainer license. The tall Borussian suffered some years ago from brain cancer and didn’t reached his former level till now.
The small technically sound striker is at the moment loaned to Hertha BSC and won't return to BVB if Berlin stays in the top flight division. Reina's contract with Borussia Dortmund would otherwise be valid till 30.06.2005.
The versatile Argentinean is since January till the end of this years loaned to River Plate Buenos Aires, where he plays regulary as a left-defender. His contract with BVB is valid till 30.06.2007.
The experienced Brazilian's loan contract with BVB won't be renewed as Falvio's salary and transfer fee is a too heavy burden for Borussia Dortmund.
Oliseh is a much more complicated topic. The Nigerian player was loaned to VfL Bochum and during this spell had a clash with Vahid Hashemian. With a mean attack he broke the Iranian's nose and was immediately suspended by Bochum. Later both parties cancelled the working contract in a consensual way. Some days later also Borussia Dortmund, who still own his transfer rights, terminated their contract with Oliseh. But Sunday wants to sue BVB and claims that the termination is invalid. If he wins, he is contracted to Dortmund till 30.06.2005. If BVB wins in court the contract has been cancelled with immediate impact.
