Bend it like Ewerthon

Borussia showed one of their best Home performances against Frankfurt and are now in reach for the UEFA Cup position. Ewerthon and Koller scored the goals - could have been easily two, three or four more....

58 minutes had already been played in the almost sold out Westfalenstadium (80.500):
Borussia were one – nil ahead, had top chances for two, three, four more goals (Ewerthon, Koller, Dede) and had one player and one coach more on / at the pitch.

Frankfurt’s Bürger was booked with the yellow/red card 18 minutes earlier and his coach Willi Reinmann (new Nick Name: Hessen Rambo) was also sent off after attacking the fourth official (who is responsible for the coaching zone).

So, Dede was pushing up with the ball on the left side through midfield when the ball reached Ewerthon.

Ewerthon passed one, then two defenders, he was at the left corner of the box, maybe 16, 17 meters away from the goal.

It was a perfect shot, the Ball bending around Frankfurt’s goalkeeper and – No –just hitting the inside of the right post.

He and the 75.000 BVB supporters could not believe it. But then Ewerthon turned to the south stand and made the wave to the supporters and that was the moment you could feel the ‘old Westfalenstadium Atmosphere’.

The south stand was shouting: BORUSSIA –Borussia BVB – Borussia BVB and the rest of stadium made a pretty good noise too.
It was good old Koller who sealed the victory with the second goal in the 80 minute, a perfect header. And it was Evanilson second assist!

The first one led to the goal in the 23 minute when Evanilson crossed two defenders and his pass was taken directly by Ewerthon, he scored into the right corner of the goal, no chance for the goalkeeper.

Borussia were wide awake from the first minute of the game. Although the conditions where poor (it was raining all day) and Frankfurt came with a good track record from the last games. But Borussia made it clear from the first minute that they were going for the three points.

Ewerthon was fantastic, Gambino was strong in the first half, Dede was very dynamic, Koller worked the pitch, Kehl was fighting for every ball, also Frings (who missed a 100% chance in the 71 minute), Evanilson had strong moments in the offence - like his counterpart Jensen on the left side. Wörns and Reuter were solid as always (or most of the time) and Warmuz showed why he is currently the number one - especially in the 77 minute when he saved a difficult shot from Preuß.
Manager Sammer also had a surprise in hand. Flavio was not in the team, and he was not even substituted.

So, after the Freiburg game, when Koller had to take the hard place on the bench, another big name was cut from the squad – new signals from Dortmund’s head coach to the team.

After loosing the first Home game, not playing well the second, losing the third one, this game was important for the moral of the team and the supporters! Borussia are now 4 points away from position number 5 in the league, which would mean UEFC Cup qualification.

Next game will be in Hanover, a strong forward attacking team which is struggling in the current tournament.

The next Home game will be against the ‘Ruhr – Neighbours’ from Bochum and that will be again a big point game - because VFL Bochum is currently on position number 5.

For now the world of the BVB supporters is somehow ok and you saw a lot of happy faces on Saturday.
