Lucky Borussia

After a 1-2 defeat against Club Bruges in the first leg of this years Uefa Champions League qualification BVB has to thank Bruges keeper Verlinden that they still have a chance to qualify after a disappointing performance.

Sammer changed the winning team from last Saturday only at one position: The league banned Kehl replaced Otto Addo.
In minute 2 BVB the first chance to score when Rosicky was served in the goal area but his shot was too weak. After 10 minutes Dortmund lost control of the game and Bruges began to create their own goal opportunities. Most of them resulted in stupid lose balls of the complete yellow dressed players. So the Belgium players were running one counter attack after another onto Weidenfeller’s goal.
After 33 minutes they succeeded for the first time: Bergdölmo lost the ball at the left wing in the half of Borussia to a Bruges player. They got the ball on the right wing where a black-blue one sent the ball in the box area passing all the sleeping BVB defenders. Ceh made a beautiful header and 20.000 fans in Jan Breydel Stadium were cheering, 1-0 Bruges! BVB had only one good goal opportunity, but Bruges Goalie Verlinden cleared a Rosicky free kick into corner kick. Seconds before halftime another crucial mistake happened and Bruges were running another counter attack. The right defensive wing of BVB was all-free and so another flank was passing Reuter, Wörns and Madouni but founding Verheyen. The Belgium national player scored volley into the net, 2-0 Bruges!
Dortmund substituted: Addo came in for Bergdölmo. Sure the Norwegian was weak but he wasn’t the only one. BVB took more and more control of the match and began to create chances. Bruges got tired after their fantastic running performances in first half. The BVB goal came very surprising. Verlinden cleared a heavy Koller shot right in front of attacking Amoroso who scored this very important away goal, 1-2! At the end, Weidenfeller and Dede cleared 2 dangerous attacks from Bruges and so the final result was only 1-2. Summary: The result is the only positive aspect of the game. Dortmund played with such arrogance as if they were all world champion after beating Wolfsburg 4-0. There was no running, no fighting. They wanted to beat Bruges with their good football technique but without the athletic aspects. The first half was a real shame for every BVB-Fan. It’s only their great luck and the fact that Bruges missed to score more goals and of course Verlinden’s mistake that keep the chance for Dortmund to qualify for the UCL. But with such a performance you won’t win a thing in European Cup. So let’s hope that the team has learnt something from this evening.
