'I want to play for the Championship with Dortmund'

He is here: Flavio Conceicao. The 29 years old Brazilian was introduced by the club today during a press conference. Gerd Niebaum could announce with satisfaction in his voice, that Conceicao will be loaned out from Real Madrid till end of the season.


After the 2003/04 season Dortmund has an option to buy the Brazilian with a Spanish passport. Because of this he will be the first Spanish player ever to play for Borussia. Also a premiere is a transfer from Real Madrid to Borussia Dortmund.

Conceicao reasoned his move to Dortmund and not to Middlesbrough very simple, that he doesn’t want to play “for any club” but that he want “to play with Dortmund for the German Championship'. He is also proud to wear the No.6 jersey which was once owned by coach Matthias Sammer. That Borussia has such a young coach in Sammer, astonished him. The surrounding in Dortmund he already knows by telephone calls with Evanilson and his friend Marcio Amoroso.
After Conceicao’s arrival in Dortmund yesterday he directly went to the Groenmeyer-institute in Bochum, where his fitness and physical health were checked. Following his last match with the “Royals” against Bilbao on June 24th he was on vacation, because due to his upcoming transfer he hadn’t had to join the Real team on its trip to China. During this time he had some running training and was in gym. Whether he will be in the Schlacke line up, was a question he couldn’t answer. 'At first I’ve to practise two times a day and then the coach decides.'
Sports manager Michael Zorc is happy to have completed the transfer of the technical perfect “Spanish” Brazilian. He considers him to play in the half-right midfield and as well fitting to the stars Amoroso and Rosicky. Conceicao’s right foot was characterised by Zorc as a “hammer”.

At first Conceicao will stay in a Dortmund hotel until he has found a fitting house and his family (he is married since 10 years and has 3 Children) can join him.

So all we can do is hope that the 70 times Brazilian national player stays injured-free and is not just an addition to Dortmund’s squad but a real boost.
