Only the points matter!

Before the game everyone was talking of the duel Fredi Bobic versus Borussia Dortmund and not Hanover against BVB but at the end it wasn’t that exciting.

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Wesftalenstadium and nearly sold-out with 5.000-6.000 green-white boys on north stand. Borussia played with the same teen that defeated Moscow, Madouni played for the injured Dede and Fernandez was back in the squad and sitting on the bench.
BVB had the first chance when Frings brought the ball into the box but Ewerthon and Koller couldn’t reach it. The rest was a quite boring play with a lot of mistakes on both sides until minute 12. Idrissou and Wörns were running side on side into BVB-box, Idrissou felt and the ref whistle penalty for Hanover 96. Hanover star Popescu against Lehmann, right in front of the south stands. Lehmann jumped from left to right and back and so the irritated Popescu missed to score. The next minutes were boring again till minute 33. Ewerthon stood in Hanover box with the ball on the foot and he didn’t know what to do. So he gave the ball to Frings who’s waiting outside and “Lutscher” kicked it like he did on Wednesday against Moscow directly under the roof of the net, 1-0 for Borussia! That was it for halftime one.
There wasn’t much excitement on the pitch, Hanover wasn’t able to do more and BVB relaxed on their lead. So Sammer begun to substitute and brought Odonkor for the weak Ewerthon and later Dede’s older brother Leandro for Amoroso. Youth for Borussia!
In minute 73 both showed what they are able to. Frings served Odonkor in the middle of the field on the right wing and David sprinted in direction of goalie Tremmel. Then he entered into the box and passed in the middle where Leandro had no huge problems to finish, 2-0 for BVB!
The last interesting action happened 7 minutes before end, when Lehmann cleared in extremis on the line after a header by Vincinus. Hanover fans were already cheering but they had to recognize Lehmann’s world class action. Soon the referee had seen enough and finished the game and Borussia got the three points.
A deserved victory for BVB but it would have been very difficult if Popescu hadn’t missed the penalty. Borussia was tired of Moscow and may be their thoughts have been already in Milan where Borussia plays on Tuesday for their last chance in reaching CL quarterfinals.
