Transfer rumours are once again starting to grow!
'We need new faces, we need some new blood.' With these words Dr. Niebaum draw attention on BVB last weekend. In an interview with “Borussia aktuell”, BVB’s stadium magazine, the Dortmund based lawyer gave us some peek views into the club’s transfer plans. Where the fans before thought that, also due to the “Kirch crisis”, no big money signings would be made, Niebaum now hinted towards a new way of thinking and maybe transfers of a higher category.Fredi Bobic, Victor Ikpeba, Sunday Oliseh and last but not least Jan-Derek Sörensen – for this quartet BVB had to pay a high, far to high price. That is only one thing these four have in common. They also didn’t show the performances the officials and the fans expected from them. Finally all of them were transferred or lent out to other clubs. It was a big relief for Borussia on the financial side but they still have to pay for part of Bobic’s and Oliseh’s earnings. And so it seemed to be a quite summer for Borussia Dortmund transfers. But now this Niebaum interview, that sounds like a change in mind and transfer strategy.
Niebaum: 'We need new faces, we need some new blood. From experience I can tell: if you don’t act during the summer break, you’ll get punished. This is one of the rules of the game I can’t really explain. On the other hand, opposite to other teams where up to ten contracts are running out, we are not in a process of reorganization. We are carefully going to ask ourselves on which position we need to improve to implement our ambitions even better.'
Those who know the football business can predict that the first transfer contacts are already made in spring. The club officials will know for sure in which parts of the team something has to be done and possible signings will be observed intensively. The question, which positions are the discussed ones by Matthias Sammer, Dr. Gerd Niebaum, Michael Meier and Reinhard Saftig, is seed for many rumours and speculations but in some cases the answer seems to be obvious.
The right wing is seen as the problem furthermore. It’s the working zone of our Brazilian Evanilson, who is not liked by the Dortmund Supporters anymore. So one would suggest, that he, even only lent from AC Parma, is a candidate for being removed from the BVB squad. In all probability he is going to stay one more year at Dortmund. A possible Transfer of Paul Freier, Bochum, who became member of the national team within this season because of impressive performances, seemed to be too expensive for the BVB for weeks. But Niebaum’s words leave room for speculations. Is the BVB planning to put some pressure on Evanilson with a well-known competitor? This would be a big expense, because Freier has signed at Bochum until 2005. The next weeks will show …
According to many experts, the BVB is underrepresented in the defense after the retirement of Jürgen Kohler. New names were traded very seldom for this zone. In the defence Midfield nothing is to be done, unless Jörg Heinrich isn’t signing a new contract in Dortmund. After the negotiation talks being stretched over this case isn’t impossible. The actual squad also seems to contain enough qualified strikers. Marcio Amoroso, the goalgetter of the last season, fell into a big crisis after being injured for a long time and is not going to find out of this situation. Referring to the actual situation on the transfer market, his departing is improbable. But if a club is interested and offers enough money, Dortmund won’t block the transfer.
As a possible successor WC-hero Miroslav Klose, famous for his headers, was talked about, but the interest of the BVB and also FC Bayern seemed to be reduced after a bad phase. Now the surrounding of the BVB is talking about some other strikes, mostly Non-EU-foreigners from South America. The Obligation of one of those would require, that he has additional, European, passport or that one Non-EU-player out of the actual squad has to leave.
Cesar Andres Carignano:
The 20 years old striker of Colon Santa Fe was associated by Argentinean medias with Borussia Dortmund. The tall Gaucho (1,89m) is a young player that would fit to Sammer’s concept and has really some talents. But it’s unlikely he will join the Westfalens because he will probably sign a new contract with his current club in the near future. A duration till 2006 is in talks.
Diego Millito:
The 23 old forward of Racing club is also associated with BVB by Argentinean medias. Maybe Milito was observed by Borussia Dortmund’s scouts, but a transfer to Germany is out of sight. It seems likely that the spanish La Liga club Alaves has already secured his signing.
Stephan Appiah:
The rumours that BVB is interested in the 22 year s old Ghanaian were launched by medias abroad. The Italian sports daily “Tuttosport” reported in January that Borussia Dortmund were eying the defensive midfielder. In the case Jörg Heinrich leaves the club, Appiah could be the name to remember for the BVB-fans. Appiah, at the moment he is lent out from Parma to Brescia, isn’t a marksman but his game organisation is great. It’s even that good, that clubs like Paris St.Germain, Internazionale Milano and also AS Roma are trying to get him. Facing this fact it seems unlikely to see him wear the blackyellow dress in summer.
Luciano Figueroa:
The 21 years old Figueroa is another Argentinean striker with great talents. At the moment he is playing at Rosario Central and was already offered to many German Bundesliga clubs. For example Hertha BSC Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen and also Borussia Dortmund. Out of the many footballers that are offered to BVB he may be one of those who are worth thinking about. But again it seems unlikely Borussia will sign him. Furthermore Tottenham and Hertha BSC Berlin have more serious intentions regarding this player.
Tomas Jun:
Tomas Jun of Sparta Praha is the next candidate out of the pool of players that have been offered to Borussia Dortmund. On the pitch he’s big number but his character isn’t the type of you need if you want to make it to the top. Sammer surely doesn’t want such a player in his squad.
Marcelo Adrián Carrusca:
A player with a talented left foot who was observed by Saftig, Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout, during the South American U20-championschip, which took place in January this year. The name of the gifted midfielder is Marcelo Adrián Carrusca. At the moment the Argentinean is under contract with Estudiantes de la Plata, the former club of the Borussian Juan Ramon Fernandez. At the U20-championship he performed very well and may have convinced Saftig. In the case Heinrich will leave us, he will be an interesting man for BVB.
It’s noticeable that many South American footballers, and thus Non-EU-foreigners, are dealed in connection with Borussia Dortmund. Now that Niebaum is talking of reinforcements, the fans can expect some chances in the BVB squad in summer. You can be curious who will wear the blackyellow jersey from first of July on. The newest rumours are bringing Steffen Freund, whose contract at Tottenham expires, in connection to Borussia Dortmund. Surely Dr. Niebaum has opened the field for speculations with his words in “Borussia aktuell”!
