No glamour, but second round reached
The BVB has reached the second round of the German FA Cup. The Borussia wins 3:0 against Concordia Ihrhove (that's a small town in north-west Germany you don't really have to know).Coach Sammer wanted to show how serious he took this match: this time - in contrast to last year when the BVB-benchplayers lost against Wolfsburg's amateurs - there were only first choice players in the starting lineup, with one exeption: Jens Lehman was exchanged for Roman Weidenfeller (as many had already guessed before). Right from the beginning it was clear that the BVB did take this match seriously. It was almost a match against one goal. After a couple of minutes, Frings entered the penalty box and was pulled to the ground, usually that's a penalty but not today!
There were a couple of good chances by Koller and others. But - alas - Borussia missed to score a goal, they just didn't have a clue how to get around Ihrhove's goalie Jaschob. He was on guard a lot of times and was mainly responsible that during halftime the score was still 0:0. One curiosity from beside the pitch: the radio-broadcasting was performed out of a telephone-box next to the ground. After the break, Borussia was dominating the game, again. After some minutes, the ball comes from the left side to the penalty spot where Koller's standing. He just passes the ball right in front of Ewerthon's feet who takes the shot but it's again goalie Jaschob, who's saving with his knee. Then, it's Ihrhove that's attacking: A long ball deep into Borussia's half, Reuter isn't acting firmly enough against Ihrhove's offensive player but this time it's Weidenfeller who's getting out of his goal to save the situation. Then, the 57th minute, Frings coming from the left side, getting around some of Ihrhove's defenders, his shot is blocked by Jaschob again, but there's Jörg Heinrich standing at the right place and is able to push it over the line: 1:0! During the following minutes, nothing exciting happend so we just go along to minute 82: Evanilson's coming from the outer right side, sees Koller in the middle and passed the ball right next to the 5-meter-area where Jan has no problems score: 2:0.
And then right after Ihrhove's kick-off, Koller wins the ball in the outer left mid-field, runs along the line, passes into the middle to Otto Addo who lifts the ball over Ihrhove's goalie: 3:0.
At the end, the result was something you could expect when thinking of a match between the current German champion and a team from fourth-division. But as fans of the BVB, you're always very thankful when the team reaches the next round in the German FA Cup (since that doesn't happen very often). Sammer said, that the result was O.K. but it would have been much easier if they had scored during the first half.
