Ultras = Racists?
Italian football once again undergoes another sad racism scandal. Hellas Verona subjects itself to the will of the many right wing extremists under its supporters and resigns from transferring „coloured“ players. Hellas Verona subjects itself to the will of the many right wing extremists among its supporters and decides not to sign any 'coloured' players anymore.Immediatly after that SAT.1 titles in the evening news: 'Ultras prevent signing of coloured players“.As unfortunate as the incident in Italy is and as delicate as the topic of racism in football stadiums is, one think should be very clear. Ultragroups are no nazi-organisations. The populistic sensation journalism of Kirch press searchedfor a someone to blame and found someone quickly in the so-called 'Ultras“. Without ever being informed about this rather young fan group it is put in the brown corner of the political spectrum.
The roots of the Ultra movement are definetly in italy but also on the balkan and even in Germany the Ultramovement attracts more and more supporters. There is no general specification for an ultra. For that, the movement is too young and there are too many regional differences.
Certain is, that so called „Doppelhalter“, large ensigns andrealizing so called choreographies have their roots in the ultra movement. It is certain that so-called 'Doppelhalter“, that is, large ensigns, and carrying out so-called choreographies have their roots in the ultra movement.
Certainly SAT.1 wasn't the first trying to put Ultras in the 'right“ light. Even in the BVB supporters scene more than once people tried to discredit these fans. The football ground was always a place where all relevant public classes meet.
From worker to company owners. And when in the 80s the first african players came to the Bundesliga, it was from people on Main Stands this players were insulted with 'oook-oook-oook' noises.
As dumb and disgusting any racism is, it is not a problem of particular fan branches only. The brown enemy is everywhere, among the so-called 'Kutten“ as well as among the glory seekers.
And one who wants to exclude a young fan, just because he wears an umbro-shirt and a beam scarf, doesn't only act dumb but also dangerously.
Several weeks ago, the Italian government made an law, which allows gameabort as soon as racist phrases are chanted on the stands. We should be happy that the problem is not that bad in Westfalenstadion as at our south neighbours, and that Ultras, jersey wearer and anyone else gets the respect every Borussianfan deserves in advance.
