Grosskreuz, the turbo starter

Currently, Kevin Grosskreuz is sporting a couple of back eyes, courtesy of his collision with Moritz Leitner. It won't impact his good mood though. The 23 year old had a dream-like start into the year 2012.

"We had a perfect start into the second half" is the Dortmund-born's smiling summary of the Sunday 1-5 defeat of Hamburg. "We dominated from minute one and scored a well deserved victory." Grosskreuz's share of the match was significant with one goal and assist each. Hamburg and Kevin - that combination has worked well this season with a total of 3 goals and one assist - 4 out of his total 10 scorer points coming from matches against the the Bundesliga veteran.

In Grosskreuz's eyes, his 2012 performance so far is simple: "Practice has been great in the last few weeks and I'm just in great shape." That shape is showing on the field not just through scoring plays. A impressive 11.5km (~7mi) of distance and 24 springs is his 90 minute total for last Sunday.

The year 2012 will also bring the Euro in Poland and Ukrain and Kevin seems to have set his eyes on it judging from his recent performance. Three national team caps are his total since his debut in 2010 with the last game in February of 2011. "It would be a dream to be on the Euro squad." says Grosskreuz, but he knows that it is going to be hard: "I am focussed on the club first. Everything else will come in time." The goals for this season are simple - beating his previous best of 8 goals and 7 assists.

In the short term, Kevin Grosskreuz wants a Bundesliga victory against 1899 Hoffenheim who have only lost once to Borussia since they advanced to the upper house of German football. "If we play our game, it will be hard for Hoffenheim to beat us." is Grosskreuz's opinion. During the championship season, Dortmund was able to beat 1899 (2:1, 28th of November 2009) just like in the national cup (DFB-Pokal). Back in 2008, Hoffenheim was still in the 2nd league and one of the stepping stones to the final that year. Back in 2008, Kevin Grosskreuz also was still a supporter on the famed Suedtribuene...
