Marco Reus wants to join Borussia Dortmund in summer

The lost son is coming home!

Rising Bundesliga superstar Marco Reus finally realised that there is only one Borussia and decided to leave the pony-stable to join the mighty BVB. Today VfL Mönchngladbach made public that Reus turned down their offer to extend his contract until 2016 because he wants to rejoin the club he played for in his youth days. After Kevin Großkreutz, Mario Götze and the like another Dortmunder Jung is going to play in black'n'yellow in front of 80.000 in the mighty Westfalen temple. What could be better?

On the other hand this transfer would mark a change in the policy BVB has followed for the last years. Even though Reus is a young player with the possibility of a big development the fixed transfer fee of €17.5m means another dimension after years where roundabout €5m seemed to be the most that Borussia was willing to pay for a single player. The financial consolidation in recent years makes such a transfer possible without taking any big risks for the club, but still we have to wait and see what impact this move has on the balanced squad we have today.

Here are Marco Reus own words regarding his future:

I made the decision to take the next step in the upcoming season, to play for a club that competes for the championship and is a guaranteed Champions League starter. I see that chance in Dortmund.

I did not think about my contract until christmas. Mönchengladbach made a real good offer to extend my contract but I think it is the right step for my development to leave Gladbach after three years and move to Dortmund.

That my family lives in Dortmund was not decisive but I need an intact invironment and I know I'll find that in Dortmund.

I informed coach and management on Tuesday about my plans. It was important to me to share my plans with the club.

It is great news that Borussia was able to sign one of Germanies biggest talents, but we will have to wait and see if Marco Reus can justify this immense transfer fee.

Borussia Dortmund just confirmed the tranfer of Marco Reus

BVB sporting director Michael "Susi" Zorc: Marco Reus was our top target for the offence. We are happy that Marco Reus chose to join us even though we were facing steep competition.

BVB CEO Aki Watzke: We financed this transfer solid from the reserve assets of the last years. Marco Reus is a player that makes the difference and on top of that a real Dortmunder Jung.

Marco Reus will sign a 5 year contract at BVB running until 2017.

Welcome home Marco Reus.
