Wonderful quotes by Hummels and Götze

During the last week a lot of our players went along to join their Nationalteams for various testgames, which my fellow editor Maurice has already told us about.  And while Bender, Götze, Hummels and Gündogan were all nominated for the German squad, only Hummels and Götze got to play. And the way they played? I am sure we read all about it already.
However, after the game the two of them gave an interview to the sportsmagazin "Kicker" and we simply wanted to share a few of the quotes with those, who are not able to find the interview anywhere else. Our editor Steph actually pointed out that you might almost cry out of joy when you read the interview. It is wonderful to know that we have guys like these in our rows.  Enjoy!

Hummels on the question whether he was surprised about the development of Mario Götze:

Only that it all came so quickly. You wouldn't have expected that. But I have already known him since he was 15 years old. It was clear then that he was the type of footballplayer  who looks for his equals at his age and that we would have a lot of fun with him later on.

Götze on the question whether he is the new Lionel Messi:

Messi is worlds apart and ahead of me. And the way to this level is very long and very hard.

Götze on the question how difficult it is to stay down to earth with all the compliments around:

To be honest, it is not too easy since you get confronted by it every day, when you walk through the city or open the newspaper. But I know that there will be times when people write different things about me. That's why I can handle the situation quite well.

On the question whether it is possible to become a world star in Dortmund:

Götze: It is possible. If we play successfully and well in the Championsleague, there is nothing that could get in the way. But of course teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid are still an eyecatcher.

Hummels: The question rather is, do you really want to become a world star or  play the football you enjoy in the small amount of 20 years of professional football.

On their plans for their careers:

Hummels. I have decided, without a doubt, that I enjoy playing football in Dortmund so much, that I don't see an alternative for that yet. Two years ago I thought that another country would be nothing for me. Right now I think, that it might be a challenge for me at some point of my career. Maybe, however, I will realize that I do not want to leave Dortmund at all, in two years of a time. I am excited myself about how it will turn out.

Götze: You cannot really plan your career like that because you never know what might happen. There are things like injuries and private problem that might influence you on your decisions. That's why I only plan on short terms, I am really looking forward to the new season, and I feel completely contented here in Dortmund.

On their own improvement for the next season:

Hummels: I threw away quite a few chances, which didn't really attract attention looking at my five goals. But I want to improve this. I have a bet running with a friend of mine that I will score ten goals in all contests.

Götze: At least ten goals are my goal as well. But those only in the Bundesliga.
