Champions League: The dream group of the BVB stars
Today is the day all BVB supporters have been waiting for. After years of a seemingly endless draught the tournament winner of 1997 finally makes his return to the peak of international club football: The UEFA Champions Leage. The draw for the group stage will be held in Monaco at 5:45 p.m. CET. Of course you will be able to follow it minute by minute somewhere on schwatzgelb.com. To increase the antipation even further, here are some statements by the young-guns on their dream opponents taken from an article in local sports paper Reviersport:
Jürgen Klopp: I have some teams, I wish for but I will only comment on that after the draw. One thing I can promise though, we will play whoever we get.
Patrick Owomoyela: I wish for Barcelona. It is incredible to play at Nou Camp. Also it would be nice to play AC Milan with my old buddy Kevin Prince Boateng. There are probably some people in the club that would rather get some easier opponents, but why shouldn't we go directly for the raisins?
Ilkay Gündogan: Only the big clubs get to play the Champions League. Every opponent is a dream. We can't wait for it to start.
Kagawa Shinji: I wish for Barcelona. That would be great. But of course there are only hard opponents in the Champions League.
Mario Götze: It would not be bad to get some easier opponents in the group stage, but we will face one or two crunch encounters for sure. To get to play at Barcelona would be awesome but also against Real Madrid with Nuri Sahin.
Neven Subotic: We are all excited about the draw. For most of us it is the first time we get to play the Champions League. We will face some hard opposition for sure, but that is something we are really looking forward to.
Mats Hummels: I've got my dream draw in my mind already. I read that a group with Real, Milan and Man City is possible. I would sign that right away.
Kevin Großkreutz: I want to play teams that provide a great atmosphere. So I prefer Marseille and the [British] island.
Robert Lewandowski: A lot of us wish for Barcelona but I would prefer Real Madrid. Also Inter would be great. It's a bit sad that my old club Wisla Krakow did not qualify, I would have loved to meet them in the play-offs [smiles].
Lucas Barrios: What a question. Real Madrid of course! But there are only hard opponents in the draw.
In my humble opinion every Champions League group that has Borussia Dortmund in it is absolutely a dream. Finally the young guns get to play with the big boys.
