BVB young-gun Mario Götze awarded with Fritz Walter Medal in gold

Every year German football association DFB awards the greatest talents playing in Germany with the Fritz Walter Medal in gold, silver or bronze. The gold winners club contains such prominent names like Kevin Prince Boateng, Toni Kroos, Marko Marin and former BVB talent Marc Andre Kruska. Last year BVB prodigy Mario Götze won gold in the U17 category. This year he managed to repeat this success in the U18 category.

Let´s just hope that Mario will do better than the only other player to be awarded two golden Fritz Walter Medals so far: Sergej Evljuskin won gold in 2005 (U17) and 2006 (U18) but could not find a way into the VW Wolfsburg first squad and has to try his luck at Hansa Rostock in 3rd division next season.

But the prospects for Götze seem much better, as he has already been part of the BVB Bundesliga squad last season and has developed into a candidate for the starting line-up by now. In the pre season test matches he showed some impressive performances and provided some neat assists for his team-mates. Maybe we will even see him on the pitch, when the cup match against Burghausen starts on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CET. Jürgen Klopp: "Mario is in good shape".
