BVB wins 3:1 against Manchester City

In the penultimate test match before the start of season 10/11 Borussia defeated Manchester City 3:1. "The Citizens" are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world since the sheik of Abu Dabi took over, but played without their world cup superstars David Villa, Carlos Tevez, Jerome Boateng and Nigel de Jong. They had an impressive line-up nonetheless featuring the likes of the Touré brothers, Vincent Kompany known from his time in Hamburg, Emmanuel Adebayor and English internationals (o.k. that doesn´t say much) like Shaun Wright-Phillips and Gareth Barry plus an impressive bench (later on players like Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy were included).

The goals for Borussia were scored by Super-Lucas with an early penalty (he sloppily missed his second chance from the spot later on though) and newcomers Shinji Kagawa and Robert Lewandowski. The assists to both the last goals were provided by prodigy Mario Götze, who showed an overall impressive performance against the heavily built Manchester defence. An avid Kuba Blaszczykowski and a competent Hummels need to be mentioned as well. Kehl and Sahin did not seem to be at their best, while Shinji Kagawa was a constant trouble for the citizens.

As the season starts at the same time for Dortmund and Manchester, both teams should be at the same level of preparation, so this result must not be underestimated, though test matches are never to be considered too serious. The last test match will be played on Saturday on the Bielefeld Alm against 2nd division team Arminia. By then we will finally know what´s ahead as the all important Europa League draw will be held on Friday. We will keep you posted on further developments.
