Kevin Großkreutz on his hometown Dortmund and his love for Borussia
Schwatzgelb-columnist Kevin Großkreutz gave an interview to the website of German football association DFB. Here´s what he had to say about his hometown Dortmund and his favourite club.
On Dortmund and Borussia: There´s no chance to avoid BVB if your´e from Dortmund. The whole city is black´n´yellow, everything is Borussia. My father took me to the stadium for the first time when I was four. My whole family went there, stood on the "Süd". When Borussia played it was always a festive day at my home. It still is today.
On what makes Borussia special: This club is just unique. You just have to visit a game in the stadium. Nowhere is going on as much as at our games. The fans are unique. The club has a big tradition and everybody in the city is a BVB fan. Everybody is thrilled about and lives for football. I believe if you´ve experienced it as a fan, you value even more, what it means to play for this club.
On how big a fan he was: I was and still am a big fan even though I get to play for the club now. As a kid I had Borussia bedclothes. My birthday is in the middle of July so I used to get the new shirt every year. As a kid I worshipped Karlheinz Riedle, Stéphane Chapuisat and Paul Lambert. They alway gave everything for the club just like me and all the other supporters. BVB even won the Campions League back then. I was at practically every game, later on even at European cup games in Rotterdam, Glasgow or Mailand. A weekend without Borussia was a rarity.
