Klopp unhappy with new Bundesliga standard ball - watch 1860 - BVB live on saturday
At the world cup there was much fuss about the tournament ball, the Jabulani, which especially the keepers complained a lot about. Next season the Bundesliga will play with a Jabulani sibling, the Torfabrik. Here´s what coach Klopp and some players had to say about their first experiences with their new work tool.
Jürgen Klopp: In football the governing bodies are reluctant to any change of rules, but now adidas has introduced a change of rules with this new ball. This game will change completely due to this ball. Diagonal passes become almost impossible to reach, because the ball bounces so heavily. This new ball provides a lot of chances, but risks as well. The keepers will suffer, because shots that used to be a sure catch, take a twist in the last moment and become unsaveable. Honestly, I was not so unhappy with this game as it was, that I would have voted for a change of rules and the inclusion of flukes by the ball to make it more attractive. I can´t say I am enthusiastic about this ball, but we will have to live with it. It is part of this season preparation to get used to this ball the best we can, so we can take the chances it offers and minimize the risks.
Neven Subotic: It flies where it wants. This ball has its own mind. It´s less fun for the keepers but more fun for us players, because sometimes you barely hit the ball and it flies right into the corner of the goal. I will try and shoot more next season. That we play with one ball for the whole season is an improvement, because you don´t have to get used to different balls on a weekly basis anymore.
Roman Weidenfeller: The name Torfabrik (goal factory) says a lot. It is almost impossible to foretell where this ball is going to fly to. Not only the keepers have problems with it but all players, as we have seen at the world cup and see it everyday in training. The one good thing is, that all the clubs have to use it, so everybody has the same problem.
