A little revue on 2009 or how I call it: Kloppo and the young guns!
17 games, 8 wins, 6 draws and 3 time 0 points! That’s how it looks like for the start into the 2nd half of the season. With position 5 in the league and 30 points we finished up on the 19th of December, 100 years after our beloved Club was founded.
We saw, again, 5 month with a bumpy start, some disappointments, and a very good finishing. From the start of the season we saw only one win, 2 times a sharing of the points and 3 painful games where we suffered the most. By that time a lot of people spoke out their concerns and found Klopp’s way of thinking and playing doubtful. We saw a team that was not secure in the back, a midfield that was lacking ideas and strikers that couldn’t find a goal. Old and new players didn’t perform the way they did the season before, or their ex club.
Barrios couldn’t find the goal, and was already branded by the press as “ Welttornixjaeger” (translated: World goal Nothing getter). Subotic couldn’t find the performance level we were used to. Hajnal without ideas. Valdez running like a horse but without results. I will stop at this point before I bore people too death.
On top of that we lost the derby, and some of our first pick players have been injured.
That made it even worse to look forward to the next games.
On the 3rd of October we won after a hard fight with the little Borussia, where none of both teams showed quality. But this win would start our 10 games unbeaten streak.
A win against the B1 rival followed another 3 points. A 1-1 against Leverkusen was a good result too. DFB cup game Osnabrueck…. No comment!
A win against Berlin was a must, when you see their position in the league.
A really good 1-1 away in Bremen gave a lot of people some hope that we are in it.
But the 0-0 at home against Mainz brought us back to reality. Lots of voices said: Man, what is going on? Have we lost the touch again?
The following game was giving us all hope. 2-1 win against TSG 1899 LasVegas Hoppenheim! There is a football god! 4-0 against Nuremberg was fantastic, and a 3-1 win in Wolfsburg was a dream comes true, well to be honest; I was not taking any bets for a win that day. And for the 100 years Borussia Dortmund Party we beat Freiburg. Merry Christmas!
But what happened to the team over the last few weeks? A little miracle!
Picture a sunrise and a group of men on horses is riding to the direction of the camera. Slowly you can make out the faces:
On the left, Mohamed “twister feet” Zidan on Hajnal’s horse. And he is riding donuts around defenders.
Next in line Kevin “The Dortmund Kid” Grosskreuz, trying to get Nelsons Pony under control.
Followed by Nuri “Captain” Sahin, Matts “Air defence” Hummels, Marcel “ Amigo” Schmelzer and Sven “ keep cool” Bender. All together not older than the Photo of my grandfather, but with an impact nobody would have thought of. The young guns have arrived!
Even a Patrick Owomoyela traded his donkey in for a race horse and run riot on the right wing.
I hope that the team can start the second half of the season the way they finished it. With master class football (like Nuernberg,Hoffenheim and Wolsburg game).
With heart on the pitch, fighting for every ball. And at the end the better man/ team, our team, wins.
That is the stuff good movies, and games are made of.
