Klopp and Watzke support Derby Boycott

A wide range of BVB supporter groups has chosen to boycott the derby at Gelsenkirchen, to protest against the high ticket prices, asked not only at the derby but at a rising number of away matches throughout the season. You can find the groups´appeal here.

Today BVB head coach Jürgen Klopp and BVB KGaA CEO Aki Watzke supported the boycott. Also Daniel Lörcher of the BVB supporter group The Unity and spokesperson of the BVB Fans behind the boycott explained the reasons for the protest to local newspaper Ruhrnachrichten.

"I appreciate the campaign by the fans" said Aki Watzke. BVB agreed to take back the tickets already sold, to make the boycott possible. Jürgen Klopp added: "I like that our people do not go there to finance Jan Klaas Huntelaar".

"A boundary has been crossed. This is not only a move against Gelsenkirchen but against a general trend in Bundesliga" explained Daniel Lörcher. "Proportions like in Hamburg with seats for 70, 80 or even 90€ mean a selection at the cashier. Football should be an event for everybody. Of course we want to support our team, but we had to make a statement."
