The BVB success story 2009, part 7

Borussia's success story continues! A deserved 4:0 win against Karlsruher SC on a sunny Saturday afternoon, four fantastic goals, a solid performance of our black' n' yellows and 80.000 fully satisfied viewers! And the most important result: After the final whistle BVB jumped temporary up to position 5 in the league. But now it's not only temporary it's fix: The 2:0 win of Werder Bremen against Hamburger SV one day later kept us on position 5 in the league. On the same day Sch...e lost 0:1 in Mönchengladbach and is now 6 points behind us! Important steps on our way into the new Europa league! That's perfect happiness for every Dortmund fan and believe it: we are still hungry for success!

Line up

No surprise: BVB coach Jürgen Klopp decided to open the match again with an unchanged squad. Karlsruhe's coach Ede Becker had to replace important players like Porcello, Carnell and da Silva.

First half

As expected, Borussia dominated from the beginning. But the first dangerous situation happened in Borussia's penalty box when Karlsruhe's goalgetter Sebastian Freis shot. After that BVB increased the pressure on Karlsruhe's team. Former KSC midfielder Tamas Hajnal in the 7th minute and Nelson Valdez some minutes later tried to make a goal. But their shots missed the net of KSC. A remarkably improved Kuba then broke the deadlock after 25 minutes. After a pass from Alexander Frei he hammered the ball into the net with a fantastic volley. No chance for Karlsruhe's keeper Miller!

Some seconds of fear for us at the end of first half: After a high ball into the BVB box KSC's Joshua Kennedy hit the post.

Second half

KSC tried to establish its match in Dortmund's half of the green and BVB began to play clever counterattacks. A curious scene in the 62nd minute. Alexander Frei didn't pass the ball to Sebastian Kehl, afterwards Frei was fouled. Consequence # 1 was a heated up discussion between both BVB players. Consequence # 2 was much more impressive: Nuri Sahin looped the ensuing free-kick over the KSC wall and into the right hand corner! 2:0 and standing ovations for Nuri's spectacular goal. The goal gave BVB wings and KSC seemed to resign. Felipe Santana headed a corner from the highly creative Sahin over the line, 3:0. Party time in our Westfalenstadion! But not enough: Kevin Prince Boateng replaced Tamas Hajnal and Boateng immediately showed some fine tricks and a fantastic give and go with Nuri Sahin. In the 80th minute he passed the ball to Alexander Frei and the Swiss made a perfect 4:0. Not easy to describe the last ten minutes. Nearly all viewers stood in front of or on their seats and celebrated together with our Südtribüne until the final whistle. Old songs changed with new songs, standing ovations for Kuba, and Valdez. Both had left the green a little bit earlier, Florian Kringe and Mohamed Zidan replaced them.

But the party didn't stop with the final whistle! In the pubs around the stadium there was a lot to discuss: "will we qualify for the Europe league?" "what will happen in Wolfsburg on Tuesday" and some hardcore fans even started their calculations about a possible participation in the champions league (!) But let's all be well grounded! We achieved a lot during the last matches and position 5 in the league would be our key to Europe.

Summary

No question: Not only a deserved win, beyond that we could climb up in the table. A sad defeat for Karlsruhe! It will be very difficult for the team to avoid the relegation! And what will happen next for Borussia? Please let's stop all our calculations or speculations about the possible results of the 3 remaining matches and what would be possible for our black' n' yellows! We only have influence on our next match in Wolfsburg. And of course not only optimists see a real chance to add another chapter to our success story. No doubt we will play in the stadium of the current league leader, but Jürgen Klopp's comment on our next match on Tuesday shows the right attitude: "We will arrive in Wolfsburg with 5 wins in sequence! It would be wrong to say we are only the underdogs!" There's nothing more to be added!
