Dreaming of Berlin, no one thinks about Hertha
It seems as if concentration in Dortmund is solely dedicated to the DFB-Pokal where the team is to face Jena and after that hopefully Munich in order to enter the UEFA Cup. Does no one wonder whether the team is capable of getting to Europe via Bundesliga?
Pre Match Issues
It is obvious that there is a big chance of qualifying for the UEFA-Cup by beating second division club Jena, a club struggling with relegation in its league. So, forget about Bundesliga? Definitely not! There is still quite a chance to make it up the table and well: Can a club like ours be satisfied with rank 13? Surely not, so we should rather see the DFB-cup as nice gift we are given and get back to ordinary work in Bundesliga!
Berlin
An odd system (three defenders) and some new Swiss imports, at the forefront with Raffaell from Zuerich, seem to give Coach Favre's team a real boost as they are nothing less than the second best team in 2008. The three-chain defence will consist of von Bergen, Simunic who'll try to take care of Petric; and Fathi. Note that Captain Arne Friedrich is not to include due to his fifth yellow card last week. The midfield is made up by Chahed, Lustenberger, Kacar and Skacel whose primary tasks are to hold tight the defence. The real "new" quality of the team is revealed by the three offensive players: Ebert and Raffael should connect the midfield and the attack while Marco Pantelic will act as forward. Our quite instable defence should focus on preventing those three from building up effective gameplay.
Borussia
In light of a possible journey to Berlin in May, one seems to forget that the list of injured protagonists is not too short. Especially the missing Kringe, Kovac and Kuba will have some severe effect; in addition it is not a hundred percent sure whether Ziegler and Kehl will make it until tonight (though it seems very likely). And yesterday, even Marc Kruska had to quit for today - So, what is the team going to look like?
Kovac will be replaced by Wörns whose performance seems to improve, according to Doll. He will be accompanied by Amedick in the centre and Rukavina and Buckley on the right and left, respectively. Sebastian Kehl, if ready, will be acting as defensive midfielder. The central midfielder on the left will be Tinga but who will play the right wing as Kruska is not available? It will eventually be Mats Hummels whose performances in the last matches were quite promising. Giovanni Federico will take his place as offensive midfielder and feed Petric and Frei as forwards.
Outlook
The match will most probably be decided in the defence...in our defence. If we can keep our defence clear we will have, thanks to Federico, Petric and Frei, a chance to win since they are capable of deciding a match by s single decisive moment.
Again important: A series of wins in order to come up the table. But: The longer we wait to start that series the more wins we will have to opt for. Therefore: Let's start tonight!
